Become a Programme Assistant (PA)

Benefits of being a Programme Assistant

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to strengthen and reinforce your own learning of the IFS model. It allows you to:

  • Earn continuing education credits for IFS certification.
  • Take part in an IFS training with no tuition fee payable.
  • Maintain connection with the IFS model and the growing IFS community, including the possibility of working with a new trainer.
  • Increase professional competence and confidence by helping others learn IFS.

Programme Assistant prerequisites

  • A good understanding of the IFS model, and the ability to hold Self-energy.
  • As a minimum, applicants who wish to become a PA at Level 1 trainings must have already completed and received a certificate of completion from a Level 1 IFS training programme.
  • Evidence of practising the model since their IFS training, either as a therapist or practitioner.
  • As a minimum, applicants who wish to become a PA at Level 2 trainings must have completed a Level 2 training programme and have already been a PA on a L1 training programme.
  • Preference may be given to PA applicants who are Certified IFS Therapists or Certified IFS Practitioners.

Training programme responsibilities

  • Commitment to fully attend all training days.
  • Be prepared to teach in small groups.
  • Participate in staff meetings that may be before the training, at lunchtime and/or after the training.
  • Work with one’s own parts that may emerge during the course of the training.
  • Support the Lead Trainer(s) and organisers as needed including administrative/practical tasks.
  • Hold Self-energy for the training group.
  • Model Self-leadership, including maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Participate in the student role when it meets the needs of the training
  • Agree to the IFSI Code of Conduct.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate home groups: develop a safe, satisfying, supportive environment that will facilitate students’ learning; provide Self-energy for the group; and track interpersonal and group interactions.
  • Supervise small practice groups: support learning edges and provide feedback to the student who is in the role of therapist; protect exiles of the person in the role of client; model the IFS model; help track students’ learning of IFS; and understand the progression of skill development throughout the training.

Programme Assistant stipend

PAs receive a stipend that is intended to help defray some food, lodging and transportation costs. Tuition fees are waived for PAs. IFS Denmark will inform PAs what the stipend is for each particular training, this may vary between trainings. International flights cannot be reimbursed.

Programme Assistant application, selection, supervision and evaluation

Once you are accepted for this role, it is your responsibility to inform IFS Denmark which trainings you are interested in. PAs are chosen by IFS Denmark in consultation with the Lead Trainer. Additionally, IFS Denmark may approach you to be a PA at an upcoming training.

PAs will initially be offered a provisional place on a training; you will receive notice of whether your place has been confirmed no later than six weeks before the training commences.

Each training course will ideally have a mix of more experienced PAs and new PAs. IFS Denmark will to a certain degree prioritise PAs from the five Nordic countries to give the participants a possibility to speak their own language in practice grtoups.

PAs are supervised by, and receive feedback from, senior PAs, Lead PA and the Lead Trainers during the course of training programmes.
